Doing Development Differently in Metro Detroit

The D4 Civic Leadership Institute (CLI) is a multiple session, interactive program that prepares residents and coalition leaders to engage in community benefit campaigns and advocate for policy reforms that will impact their respective communities. The CLI is guided by D4’s organizational belief that by working together, we can shape the future of developments within Detroit, ensuring that all neighborhoods remain economically diverse, vibrant, healthy, and safe.

 

Since 2014, there have been six CLI cohorts with over one hundred leaders joining the growing network of CLI alumni who have gone through the extensive training. D4 is proud to have a strong partner in the University of Michigan-Dearborn, who brings together an exciting team of practitioners and academics with expertise in both development in Metro Detroit and effective adult education.

 

The D4 Civic Leadership Institute examines critical topics such as:

• The economic realities of working people in Metro Detroit

• The investment plans of those with wealth and power

• How lessons of Detroit's past can guide us in building effective coalitions today

• Concrete tools for shaping development and growing a community voice

• How to analyze power structures and leverage points in order to build winning campaigns
